How to come to terms with your past and make amends for old mistakes? And how to do it face to face with the harsh truth about your impending end? Perhaps this is the greatest life "case" of private detective Šaňo Wolf. A case whose resolution we can gradually follow in our story, as it runs through it like an imaginary red thread.
The series is also loosely based on detective stories by writer Antonín Jirotka (son of Saturnin creator Zdeněk Jirotka), who worked for over 15 years in the editorial offices of the magazines Policista and Signál, and was a member of the editorial board of the Criminalist Collection.
Crime on the Right Track is the story of a father trying to mend his relationship with his son. Šaňo Wolf is a former elite policeman who once seemed to have it all. Today he is an aging private detective with his own office, a bad heart, and a strained relationship with his adult son Jirka. When he learns that his heart could fail at any moment, he surprisingly does not opt for a life-saving transplant. Instead, this information becomes a trigger to try to set things right. To reconcile with his son and pass on his practice. To reconcile with himself as well. And because Šaňo is a quirky and stubborn man, he usually chooses the hardest paths to his goal. Even so, he keeps moving forward.
Against the backdrop of solving real detective cases, we gradually uncover old unhealed wounds and Šaňo’s past. We learn that years ago, as an investigator, he fell in love with his colleague Monika and wanted to leave his family. His wife Anna couldn’t handle the situation, started drinking, and during one of her frantic and desperate nighttime drives, crashed and died. At that time, nearly adult Jirka blamed Šaňo and gradually cut ties with him. Due to the affair at work, Šaňo left the police and founded a detective agency. Besides training security agency staff, he also takes on cases that mostly seem insignificant. But who knows what might come out of searching for a lost dog or following an unfaithful wife… Šaňo often gets help with investigations from his former colleague Monika through her contacts and connections, and surprisingly also from Jirka, guided by fate. With both, Šaňo tries to build a new relationship, which, given their mutual antipathies, seems almost an impossible task. Meanwhile, Šaňo carefully hides the fact that he is likely dying.
Just like with his detective cases, Šaňo ultimately untangles the plot of his own life. Through tough, truthful, but often also humorous therapy of life, he finally finds reconciliation. With his past, with his son, and as a bonus, he also finds a new relationship with Monika. And with all that, he finally realizes that it’s better to live for things and people than to leave them. For our main characters, the saying that it’s never too late truly applies.
Our series aims, besides the light detective genre, to bring to screens a smart and authentically human story, which is at times thought-provoking, at times serious, yet never lacking a necessary dose of dry humor. Humor exactly as life often brings it. Each episode takes place against the backdrop of one detective case, which also provides a good playground for developing personal motives and stories of our main characters. Characters who are not “fictional” figures or one-dimensional stereotypes. They are vibrant, living human characters who have their weaknesses but also joys. We believe that thanks to their authenticity, realism, and humanity, viewers will like them, be entertained by them, and find inspiration in them.
